Car Fire Caused By Three Car Collision

A car fire started after a three car auto accident. No serious injuries or wrongful deaths reported.

August 9, a Toyota Camry driven by Raymond Garrioch, 69 of Stanwood, rear-ended a stopped Chrysler driven by Ricky Parker, 43 of Washougal on northbound I-5 near the Skookumchuck River. That collision pushed the Parker Chrysler into the rear of a Toyota Corolla driven by Scott Phillips, 27 of Puyallup, which was also stopped for traffic.

The auto accident caused Garrioch’s Camry to catch fire and it quickly became fully engulfed in flames. The ensuing car fire caused both directions of the freeway to come to a total stop. The total blockage only lasted for a few minutes. Then one lane in each direction was blocked for about an hour while the fire department put out the car fire. Garrioch was cited for driving too fast for conditions.

Although this type of thing happens all of the time in the movies and on TV, car fires are actually fairly rare. Fortunately, in this case, nobody was trapped inside the vehicle.
