Last Wednesday we wrote about a 10 year old girl was struck by a car while riding her bike. Now the victim’s family is speaking out to protect others from being involved in similar Seattle car accidents. They recently spoke with Komo 4 news about last week’s events.

Emily Norman was riding her brother’s bike without a helmet when the incident occurred. She rode the bike out from behind two parked cars and into the path of the oncoming vehicle. It turns out that the driver of the vehicle, Chris McCormick, is a close friend of the family’s.

Chris says she was driving about 20 mph and was not in any way distracted when the accident occurred. It was simply a case of being at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Emily is currently in intensive care at Harborview Medical Center, where she is recovering from a serious head injury. We hold the family in our thoughts and hope Emily is out of the hospital very soon.
