3 Teens Arrested After High-Speed Chase

Driving is dangerous enough without throwing a teenage driver who has been drinking behind the wheel. Early this morning Washington State Patrol received several calls about a car that was driving excessively fast and swerving on I-5 near Tukwila. Police caught up with the car and began a dangerous high-speed chase with the Volvo on I-5 before the car pulled off the highway and started driving through neighborhoods, running red lights and stop signs. Police had to call off the chase for safety reasons because the car was driving so erratically and continuing may have endangered the lives of innocent victims.

The driver, a 17-year-old boy from Tacoma lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a fire hydrant outside of Aki Kurose Middle School on south Graham Street. The two passengers were arrested at the scene, but the driver who ran away later turned himself in to police and is now in custody; one of his suspected charges is DUI.

Had there been pedestrians on the road these kids could have caused serious personal injuries to them or even wrongfully killed someone. The driver and his passengers are irresponsible and should not be allowed to drive for a very long time; they have proven that they do not care about the consequences of driving drunk and recklessly to deserve to drive.
