Bellevue Personal Injury Lawyer | Wildfire Leads to Fatal Accident on I-90
Usually, driving on Washington’s highways is an activity that we don’t think much about, but as a Seattle car accident attorney, I get the opportunity to really see just how many things can go wrong. King5.com reports that smoke from a brush fire near I-90’s Ryegrass rest stop reduced visibility on the road, causing a major multiple vehicle accident which has resulted in at least one fatality. At least ten cars were involved in the pile-up on I-90 near Ellensburg, WA about 110 miles east of Seattle on Thursday. The driver of a semi-truck was killed when he crashed into another truck. The driver was a 60 year old University Place man whose name has not been released. The State Patrol closed a 22 mile section of the highway until conditions improved. There are over 200 hundred speeding-related fatalities every year in Washington. We all know how dangerous speeding can be, but we sometimes forget what actually comprises speeding. Driving faster than the posted speed limit is obviously speeding, but drivers sometimes forget that driving too fast for poor road, weather or visibility conditions is also speeding. When it is raining or snowing hard enough to hamper visibility, or the road is icy, or even when there is smoke or fog obscuring your vision it is critical that you remember to slow down, and leave greater stopping distance than you normally would. These simple precautions can be the difference between life and death; for you or someone with whom you are sharing the road. While this accident occurred on a stretch of open road in central Washington, given that the cause was smoke from a fire, something similar could certainly happen in one of our local communities, like Redmond. If you have been injured in a car accident where other drivers were driving too fast for the road conditions, you need to speak with a veteran attorney who can explain your rights. Jason Epstein is a highly qualified, vigorous Redmond car accident attorney who can watch out for your rights while you care for your health. I read your post about the horrible accident. I was there and filmed the scene right after it happened. It’s not a shakey cell phone camera, I was on the way to Spokane to shoot a short film and had a good camera with me.
