Blind Man Loses Guide Dog in Kennewick Car Accident | Seattle Car Accident Lawyer

The worst car accidents sometimes lead to very tragic personal losses that can severely disrupt a person’s life. In a recent traffic accident, a blind man lost his guide dog and best friend, Kaber. The car accident happened in Kennewick, Washington at the intersection of Washington Street and Sixth Avenue.

Bernard Vinther and his black Labrador, golden retriever mix, were crossing Washington Street when they were hit by a vehicle at about 7:30 a.m. Victorino Mendoza, 46, was driving north on Washington Street when he decided to turn into the right lane. Mendoza looked over his shoulder to change lanes before he struck the man and his dog.

Vinther suffered several personal injuries including a cut above his eyebrow, a few cracked front teeth and a sore chest. He was taken to the Kennewick General Hospital to be further examined for internal injuries. Unfortunately, Vinther’s 10 year old dog did not survive the crash.

It was a very difficult loss for Vinther who compared Kaber’s death to the loss of a child. He says the news of his dog’s death instantly brought him to tears. Kaber has been keeping Vinther safe for the past 9 years.

Vinther received Kaber from the organization, Guide Dogs for the Blind. He says it will most likely take six months to get another guide dog. In the meantime, Vinther will have to rely on only his walking cane and Braille compass as a guide.

We are very sorry that this fatal auto accident took the life of a very loyal guide dog. We wish the best for Vinther during this difficult time.
