In Bellingham, a car accident injured a boy that was locked in the trunk of the vehicle. The accident happened early Sunday morning.

A speeding Honda Civic veered off the road and crashed near Bellingham. There were seven people in the vehicle. Five people were wearing seatbelts, one was laying on the laps of the backseat passengers, and one passenger was locked in the trunk.

The five passengers wearing seatbelts fled the scene. The other two suffered minor injuries and were taken to St. Joseph Hospital.

According to KOMO News, the driver was identified. Investigators now believe alcohol contributed to the car accident.

Everyone knows that driving while intoxicated can be very dangerous. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were 13,846 alcohol related driving fatalities in the United States in 2008. Furthermore, not wearing a seatbelt only adds to the risk of injuries by 50%. We are glad no one was seriously injured in this very unusual car accident.
