Drunk Driver Plows Into 7 People | Seattle Car Accident Attorney

Despite the efforts of law enforcement agencies to stop drunk driving, it is still a big problem here in Washington. A drunk driver plowed into a group of seven people on Saturday afternoon, including a 20-month-old toddler. Luckily, the toddler’s nanny, Jennifer Anton, had the presence of mind to push the stroller out of the way of the drunk driver careening towards her. The toddler, Tyler Jones, suffered minor injuries that could have been much worse if Anton had not reacted in the way that she did. Anton, 25, was not so lucky. At about 12:20 p.m., 61-year-old Dwight Washington accelerated onto the sidewalk crashing into a group of seven people. According to a state attorney, the bones in Anton’s lower body were basically shattered by the impact. Investigators found an open bottle of Brandy in Washington’s Ford F-150, and he had a blood alcohol content of .183, double the legal limit. All seven victims were hospitalized with injuries ranging from cuts and abrasions to a shattered pelvis and brain injuries.

I am sure that the family is extremely grateful to Anton for her heroic actions. However, that does not change the fact that the actions of a drunk driver instantaneously changed the life of yet another innocent victim. It is time for states across the country to reevaluate their drunk driving laws in order to make sure that the penalties reflect the seriousness of the action.
