Fatal Head-On Collision on Westbound I-90
Tragic Weekend Collision Kills One and Injures ThreeOver the weekend, a series of serious auto accidents happened. The overwhelming majority of these accidents had a known cause, such as reckless, drunken, or distracted driving. However, there was one accident that happened with no apparent explanation. This accident, which caused one fatality, was unexpected and devastating to the families of the victims. An accident on westbound I-90 near Spokane on Saturday night left one man dead and three others injured. William Ainsworth, 73, entered the freeway traveling the wrong way with his headlights turned off. His Lincoln Town Car hit a Toyota Camry head-on at about 8:50 p.m. Ainsworth was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Camry, Jessica Sharp, was flown to Harborview with serious injuries. A third car, a Hyundai Elantra driven by Jackie Borup, hit Sharp’s car after the first collision. Borup and her nine-year-old daughter were injured in the collision and taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center. The westbound lanes of I-90 were closed for three hours while troopers cleared and investigated the accident. The accident is currently still under investigation. My condolences go out to the friends and families of the victims involved in this tragic accident. Even the safest driver in the world does not expect a car to be driving on the wrong side of their freeway with their headlights off. It is difficult to believe that the victims had any way of avoiding the accident, and I hope they are able to receive justice for this horrendous accident.
