The accident occurred around 1a.m. on the corner of Fourth Ave. and Cherry Street. Witnesses claim that a silver Infinity, carrying four passengers, sped through a red light just before striking the aid vehicle. Two Seattle firefighters were injured in the collision and taken to a nearby hospital were they were later released. All four passengers of the Infinity were also taken to nearby hospitals, one in critical condition. The police are still investigating whether alcohol or drugs are a factor in the incident. Even though this accident occurred in downtown Seattle, speeding is a problem in the neighboring streets of Bellvue as well.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2010, speeding contributed to around 175 traffic fatalities in the state of Washington. Speeding through red lights, especially on busy downtown streets, is extremely dangerous and reckless.
