As a Seattle personal injury lawyer I focus on Seattle pedestrian accidents and child injury law and with two young boys at home I worry about child safety as many children in the Seattle area walk to school every day. Just this week a young boy suffered serious injury as he walked to school.

A young boy sustained serious injury as he crossed a Lynwood street on his way to Beverly Elementary School. The 7-year-old Lynwood boy was crossing the intersection at 164th Street SW and 52nd Avenue W when he was struck by a car.

The boy was walking behind his two sisters when the incident occurred at about 8:20 a.m. The boy was taken to a Seattle Hospital where he remains in serious condition, but the injuries are said to not be life-threatening.

The reason behind the accident is not completely clear at this time.
Parents always worry about their child’s safety in whatever they do. There are some things we can do to help our children be safe while walking to and from school.

1.     Choose a route that is safe, has sidewalks, streetlights and crosswalks.
2.     Walk the chosen route with your child a few times, until they have it down- make sure they know that they are to only go that specific way.
3.     Make sure they know to look left-right- and left again before crossing the street
4.     Never run out in front of cars.
5.     Follow all traffic signals and listen to cross-walk attendants
6.     Never wear dark clothing while walking out in weak lighting
7.     Do not get in a strangers car
