Cyclist Seriously Injured in Hit and Run in Yakima, Wa | Seattle Personal Injury Lawyer
A 72-year-old bicycle rider suffered serious personal injury caused by a hit-and-run driver on Wide Hollow Road in Yakima. The cyclist has been identified as Leslie R. Bornfleth, a retired neurosurgeon. Bornfleth was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle and listed in satisfactory condition late Wednesday evening after suffering the serious personal injuries from the incident. Bornfleth retired from practice a few years ago from Yakima Valley Regional Medical Center officials said. Police are still on the lookout for the driver of the vehicle that hit Bornfleth. Witnesses described the vehicle as a mid 1990’s Toyota 4-Runner. All drivers need to remember that the roadways are not exclusive to cars. Pedestrians and bikes can often be found on the roads, and in fact, in the case of bikes, the law requires them to share the roadway with vehicles. Everyone on the roads, regardless of your means of conveyance must maintain a level of care to protect one another from careless behaviour and harm. Another point which must be addressed with this story is that iif you are ever involved in an accident it is your legal and moral duty to stop and call for help. Not only does fleeing the scene place the injured at greater risk, but it also raises the severity of any criminal charges one may face. It is always better to stop and take your medicine than to run and make it worse.
