Disney Fights Texting While Driving | Bellevue Personal Injury Law Firm
Working with Bellevue auto accident victims as a car accident lawyer in Renton, Washington I am overly aware of the dangers of texting while driving. Texting while driving has become a hot button issue in recent months and the consequences have been steadily increasing across the nation. In most states it is illegal to text and drive with fines ranging from $20.00 to $200.00. Even with these fines in place, however, this irresponsible behavior is on the rise. According to the Auto Club of California, texting while driving has actually increased since California’s laws were put in place almost two years ago. With the grave danger of texting behind the wheel businesses are starting to take a stance against it. Disney has announced a change to its employee policy which prohibits employees from texting while driving. Disney has many employees operating company vehicles which pose a great liability for Disney if employees are irresponsibly texting behind the wheel. The company, however, is not stopping with keeping employees from texting while driving in company vehicles, but also in their personal vehicles if doing anything that pertains to their job with Disney. If employees do not follow this new rule, disciplinary action including possible termination will be the effect. Texting while driving has accounted for a large number of auto accidents, particularly among younger drivers. Because of this growing problem I started Teens Against Distracted Driving (TADD) two years ago, which is a program designed to educated teens about the dangers of texting while driving. I urge you to visit the TADD website and take the pledge to not text while driving- no matter if you are 12, 16 or 52 we will be happy to take your pledge and send you a TADD bracelet to remind you to be safe behind the wheel.
