This is a tough battle, however, when parents are not setting a good example. This week a man was finally sentenced for hitting and killing a pedestrian over a year ago.

June 10, 2009 – Scott Caudel was distracted by his cell phone GPS while driving near the Northgate Mall in Seattle when he struck Grant Meyers while crossing at an intersection. The victim was a 91 year old blind man walking with a white cane. Meyers passed away two days after the accident.

Caudel was sentenced to 10 months of work release and forbidden from using his cell phone while operating a vehicle for 2 years.

It is incidents like these that put the immense responsibility drivers have into perspective. When behind the wheel you are not only putting your own life on the line- if you drive distracted in the you can alter someone’s life and family forever. Nothing can be worse that the pain and guilt from taking a life through a moments error in judgment.
