Drunk Driver Hits a NY City Police Officer | Seattle Car Crash Attorney
As a Seattle car accident lawyer and Washington personal injury attorney, I have seen for too many despicable drunk driving accidents in our state and around the country. In fact, drunk driving is a frequent cause of Seattle car accidents. This problem, however is not limited to Washington drunk driving accidents. On Sunday, a New York City cop suffered serious personal injuries when he was struck by a drunk driver. Ironically, the officer was in the process of citing another driver for intoxicated driving. The accident happened at about 4:30 a.m. on the Brooklyn- Queens Expressway. Diaz had just hit a taxi cab and was close to hitting the police vehicle as well. In an attempt to avoid the second collision, Diaz swerved the wheel and collided with the officer instead. Both drivers showed a blood-alcohol level higher than the legal 0.08 and were charged for driving while intoxicated. Unfortunately, the police officer suffered serious leg injuries. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital and is currently in stable condition. It is never a good idea to drive after consuming alcohol. In Washington State alone, there were 221 drunk driving fatalities in 2008. Alcohol drastically impedes a person’s driving abilities and can sometimes lead to the worst car accidents. Never drink and drive.
