In spite of stricter enforcement and harsher consequences for drunk driving, driving under the influence remains a big problem in Washington state. Being a Seattle car accident attorney and King County personal injury lawyer I see the devastation brought on by the irresponsibility of drunk drivers on a daily basis. I consider it luck when nobody is killed by incidents such as what happened in Eatonville late last week.

Three were sent to the hospital when a 1988 Mustang traveling northbound crossed the center lane hitting a 1991 Tercel headed southbound.

The head-on collision occurred on State Route 161, Eatonville Cutoff Road around 9 p.m.

The 76-year-old Eatonville man driving the Tercel along with the 18 year-old male driver of the Mustang and his 18-year-old female passenger were all taken to Good Samaritan Hospital to be treated for injuries.

According to the State Patrol the Tercel had about $4,000 worth of damage and the Mustang was totaled.

The man driving the Mustang is suspected of drunk driving and faces a DUI charge. Males between the ages of 16 and 25 receive the most DUI’s of any group. Luckily for those involved in this accident there weren’t any deaths. Sadly, not everyone is as lucky- drunk driving car accidents account for 37% of car accident deaths each year.

Do your part to prevent these types of incidents- if you are planning on drinking arrange another mode of transportation- have a designated driver or take a cab. After all, a cab fare is a lot cheaper than a DUI or vehicular homicide charge.
