In addition to the hassle of navigating the streets- parking is hard to find and extremely expensive- for these reasons many choose to walk or take public transportation as a preferred method of travel. With walking, however, comes danger as drivers are not always able to pay attention to pedestrians walking through the busy streets and sometimes serious pedestrian injuries result. One of these tragic pedestrian accidents happened just yesterday in Seattle.

At roughly 9 am yesterday, Wednesday, November 17^th a female pedestrian became the victim of a fatal pedestrian accident. The fatal pedestrian accident occurred on Cherry Street in downtown Seattle near 7^th Avenue. An elderly woman was apparently walking along Cherry street from the Northwest Harvest Food Bank at 8^th and Cherry when she was fatal struck by a dump truck. After the accident the driver of the dump truck quickly called for help, but the woman was pronounced dead shortly after emergency crews arrived.

The reason behind the accident is currently under investigation, but according to witnesses it appeared the woman didn’t see the dump trucks trailer before she was fatally hit.

Walking in Seattle is the norm, even for those taking public transportation or driving there is always a time where you find yourself walking the busy streets. One thing to keep in mind as a pedestrian is that drivers, particularly in larger vehicles may not always be able to see you so it is extremely important to pay close attention to your surroundings and walk with caution. As a driver it is very important to watch out for pedestrians, pay attention to crosswalks particularly when making turns.
