Fatal Texting While Driving Accident Kills Teen | Bellevue Wrongful Death Attorney
Working as a Kirkland personal injury attorney on Seattle auto accident settlements I have seen my fair share of horrendous auto accidents. Drunk driving and speeding contribute to a significant number of fatal auto accidents, but there is a new contestant in the auto accident game that is vying for first place – texting while driving. Just this week, a texting while driving accident cut another young life short. Sarah Edwards, an 18-year-old from Chocowinity North Carolina died just a few months from graduating high school in a fatal car accident. The accident occurred Wednesday, January 5th on Chandler Road shortly before 4 p.m. Edwards car drifted across the center lane and slammed into the back tires of a semi truck loaded with logs. The semi driver saw Edwards car approaching and moved towards the shoulder in an attempt to avoid the collision, but was unsuccessful. The impact from the accident crushed Edwards vehicle, killing her instantly. Upon further investigation, police discovered an open text message on Edwards phone, received just one minute before the 911 call was made at 3:43 to report the horrendous accident. Though texting and driving has proven to be extremely dangerous, millions of drivers continue to text behind the wheel, putting themselves and those around them at risk. Almost two years ago I started Teens Against Distracted Driving to help spread the word about the dangers of texting while driving. Since TADD began I have taken thousands of pledges from teens across the country and given bracelets to every single one- to remind them of the responsibility they have behind the wheel. I urge you to visit TADD and take the pledge to not text while driving. No matter your age, we will be happy to take your pledge and send you a bracelet. Click on the image below to take the pledge!
