Father Trapped With Daughter in Car Crash Dies
As a Renton injury attorney and Seattle wrongful death lawyer, I work with victims and their families every day to bring them a sense of justice to help them compensate their loss. Despite this, there are certain stories that stand out as being so utterly tragic, that it is difficult to get off my mind. This has been the case with Andy Kotowicz, who died over the weekend in Harborview hospital. On Thursday night of last week, Kotowicz was driving with his 3-year-old daughter in Ballard, when a driver that appeared to be having a seizure caused a chain reaction car crash, which trapped the two in their car. The crash was so severe that it caused Kotowicz’ car to catch fire with both still trapped inside. Good Samaritans came to their rescue and were able to pull the daughter out of the wreckage, but were unable to free the father until firefighters arrived on the scene. Medics had been working on Kotowics over the weekend, but the injuries he sustained proved to be too much to overcome. The daughter is still recovering from the accident, but appears to be alright. As a father myself, this story hits me on a very emotional level. As a personal injury lawyer, it reminds me why I got into this profession in the first place. From all accounts of the story, Kotowicz didn’t do anything wrong, but nevertheless became a victim of the accident. His family is now put in a situation where they may consider taking legal action for a wrongful death. Make no doubt about it, money received through legal action will never make up for the death of a family member, however they may find a sense of justice by pursuing it. Wrongful death cases are incredibly complicated, and it is impossible to speculate on whether or not there is a legitimate case against the person at-fault for the accident. Despite this, it is important for anyone who may ever be in a situation like this to seek out an experienced and compassionate wrongful death attorney when emotionally ready to do so. Losing a loved family member or friend is an incredibly painful experience. Whether it be in a car accident or not, the last thing that you and your family want to have to deal with or worry about is legal issues and complications. You deserve to know that the legal situation will be taken care of with professionalism and respect. Because I believe so strongly in this, I co-authored a book with attorney Patrick J. Kang entitled ‘In Case of Death: Straight Talk on Washington Wrongful Death. We have made this book available free of charge to Washington residents and it can be found by clicking the preceding link. So, no charges were brought against the person that caused this accident? Over a year and nothing more was reported in the news media, which is very odd. For most stories like this, the suspect is charged and named in the media. Is there some kind of cover-up going on?
