Distracted driving causes car accidents. The good news is that many States and counties have outlawed texting and using cell phones while driving. The bad news is that citizens still don’t seem to care. In an effort to reduce distractions and increase awareness, police officers in Torrance, California set up a traffic operation on a busy road at 10:30 in the morning on Wednesday. By noon, only an hour and a half later, they had already issued tickets to 41 distracted drivers for a total of more than $5000 in fines.

Anyone who is foolish enough to think that this was just a way for the State to make money is wrong. This operation was in place to educate, warn, and save lives. Distracted driving, especially texting and driving, is very dangerous and can cause devastating car accidents that could result in personal injuries or wrongful deaths. It is not a joke, nor a revenue raising project, so please do not use your cell phones while operating your vehicles.
