Four Years Later, Man Wins Case against WSDOT | King County Car Accident Attorney

When poor road conditions or roadway design does occur, victims are oftentimes unfairly left with terrible injuries, which can burden them for years. Unfortunately, this was the case for one local man.

In April 2006, John Lancaster was seriously injured in an auto accident that occurred at the intersection of State Route 101 and Lynch Road near Shelton. Now he has received a $2 million settlement in his case against the Washington State Department of Transportation.

Lancaster was riding his motorcycle when he was hit by a vehicle turning left at the intersection. As a result of the accident, Lancaster had to spend two months in the hospital where he underwent 15 different surgeries.

A lawsuit was filed against the Washington State Department of Transportation arguing that the design of the highway and intersection posed a danger to drivers. The plaintiff argued that the state knew the intersection was dangerous and chose to ignore this fact.

During the litigation, it was discovered that in 2001 a WSDOT study suggested the highway be closed or fixed. Since then, there have been over 29 collisions at that intersection.

Unfortunately, Lancaster is still struggling with his injuries four years later. But now he will be able to pay his medical bills and return his life to normalcy.
