Intersection Closed for Downed Trolley Lines | Seattle Personal Injury Attorney
In my job as a Seattle personal injury attorney, I encounter people every day who have been injured in accidents that took them completely by surprise. Everyone has been in some kind of accident at some time in their life; fortunately most of us have never suffered debilitating injury. A report at KING5.com this morning serves to reminds us that sometimes things can happen that just could not have been predicted, as they report on the trolley lines that were knocked down at Broadway Ave and East Madison St. The lines went down yesterday afternoon when they were snagged by a passing dump truck. The immediate result of this snag was to bring the wires down. With a situation this dangerous, the intersection had to be closed off, and traffic rerouted. I’m sure that having such a busy intersection closed off during the evening rush hour created stress on other downtown roads. The good news is that it does not appear that anyone was injured in what could have been a terrible situation, and the lines have been repaired and the intersection reopened. It is not clear whether there was some unusual circumstance that caused the wires to get caught: low-hanging lines or something sticking up higher than usual from the dump truck. Obviously, however, it is very unusual for any vehicle to snag on these wires. This story illustrates very nicely that accidents can never be planned on; they generally happen at the most unexpected times and in the most unexpected ways. Certainly, this accident was what one might think of as a fluke and I’m sure everyone joins me in being extremely thankful that no one was injured. Still, it is a good reminder that the unexpected can and will happen. When it does, the reactions are not always as clear and immediate as was the case at Broadway and Madison yesterday. Sometimes people are seriously injured in accidents that are caused by someone else’s negligence. Whether the negligence takes the form of creating a dangerous situation, or failing to perform some maintenance to keep a building or vehicle safe, when someone is injured due to the negligence of another, they are entitled to compensation for their injuries. If you have been injured in an accident that was caused by someone’s unreasonable lack of care, contact an experienced Seattle personal injury attorney right away to protect yourself and your family.
