Memorial Day Weekend Accident Statistics
For some reason holiday weekends always seem to have a higher amount of auto accidents than any other time. People who are out enjoying the time off and having a good time tend to be less responsible than they would usually be when they get behind the wheel of their car. My Washington State auto accident law firm helps victims that sustained personal injuries due to another person’s negligence. As a Seattle wrongful death attorney I know how devastating a fatal accident can be and yet drivers still risk everything to get behind the wheel intoxicated or to send a text while they are driving. The numbers are in for Memorial Day weekend and the amount of auto accidents and fatalities is scary. In the Tri-City area alone there were 17 car accidents that left three people with personal injuries and in the hospital. Statewide the accident rate is even higher and four people were killed in accidents over the weekend. One of the most tragic accidents was the bus rollover that killed two people and injured 21 others. A few years ago Washington State Patrol adopted a new program called Target Zero, which is trying to bring the number of fatalities and personal injuries down to zero by the year 2030 by getting dangerous drivers off the roads. Don’t let the festivities of a holiday stop you from being a responsible driver. Regardless of how much fun you are having with your friends and family you still owe it to every other person on the road to drive with caution. Click here for tips on how to spot a drunk driver.
