Motorcycle Accident Closes Newly Opened Tunnel | Seattle Motorcycle Accident Attorney
One of Seattle’s suburbs may be a new hot spot for personal injury auto accidents. A two motorcycle accident seriously injured both riders in the Bremerton Ferry Tunnel on Saturday, October 10. Police reports indicate that one of the 26 year-olds was driving at an excessive speed when he lost control of his bike. He crashed to the pavement, lost his helmet and crashed into a guardrail. His friend, upon reaching the scene swerved to avoid the accident and crashed himself. The first biker suffered non-life-threatening head injuries and is in stable condition at the Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. His friend suffered leg injuries and is recovering at Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton. The tunnel, which opened in July, was closed for nearly four hours for the accident investigation. While not the first incident in the new tunnel, this was the first time that it had to be completely shut down. It is unclear why the man’s helmet came off of his head during the accident, but it could be due to an ill-attached or ill-fitted helmet. Wearing a helmet can save your life in a serious motorcycle accident such as this one. Even when enjoying the freedom of a motorcycle, be sure to follow the posted road regulations for your safety and that of your fellow Washingtonians. Be sure to follow posted speed limits especially in construction areas, in school zones and on bridges and in tunnels. These areas add additional risk to accidents including injuring innocent bystanders. Do yourself and everyone involved a favor: slow down and wear a helmet.
