May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month! As the weather gets nicer, more people purchase and ride motorcycles. As a Seattle motorcycle accident lawyer and Bellevue personal injury attorney, I see many motorcycle accidents in Washington and across the country this time of the year.

On Wednesday, a motorcyclist was seriously injured when he collided with a car in New York. The incident took place around 10:50 a.m. on Washington Street.

Charles Marshall Jr. was driving a 2007 Suzuki motorcycle when he rear ended a car driven by an 82-year-old woman. The 39-year-old man was thrown off his motorcycle.

Marshall suffered serious injuries to his pelvis, lower back, and wrists. He was taken to WCA Hospital by Alstar EMTs.
Luckily, no one else was injured in the collision.

There was significant damage to both vehicles. Marshall received several driving infractions and is set to appear in the Jamestown City Court.

As everyone knows, motorcycles can be very dangerous. The number of motorcycle accidents has been increasing for the past ten years. We are only now beginning to see a decline. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were 5,290 motorcycle fatalities in 2008 and an estimated 4,762 in 2009.
