Port Orchard Man Injured in Motorcycle Accident | Bellevue Injury Law FirmWith warmer weather just around the corner, we are likely to see an increase in the number of motorcycles on the road. As a Kirkland personal injury lawyer, I know that motorcyclists are more likely than car drivers to suffer serious injuries in an accident because of their lack of protection. 80% of accidents involving motorcycles result in an injury for either the driver or passenger of the motorcycle. It is a common misconception that motorcyclists cause these accidents, however, as most motorcycle accidents are not the fault of the motorcycle driver. An accident involving a motorcycle occurred on Wednesday afternoon on Highway 16. A 62 year-old Port Orchard man was driving his motorcycle in the nice weather when a 23-year-old driver changed lanes in his BMW without seeing the motorcycle. The crash caused the driver of the motorcycle to be thrown from his vehicle, leading to a serious leg injury. The accident was caused by an improper lane change by the 23-year-old driver, which he was cited for. The driver of the BMW was not injured, but both vehicles suffered minor damage. The dangers of riding a motorcycle were highlighted by this accident. In many cases, car drivers do not notice a motorcycle on the road around them, or they fail to look for motorcyclists. Serious injuries are suffered by motorcyclists more often than other drivers because of their inadequate protection and awareness of other drivers. Awareness of the road and other drivers around you is very important to ensure your safety while driving a motorcycle.
