Seattle Motorcycle Cop Injured In Fremont Accident

Four –way intersections present a unique kind of danger for everyone on the road, including car drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists. Intersections generally mark an area with a higher volume of traffic. As a Washington injury attorney, I have found that it is especially important that drivers are aware of other drivers and their surroundings in these crowded areas to prevent accidents that could lead to serious injuries.

On Thursday afternoon, a Seattle police officer on a motorcycle was injured in a collision with a car at a four way intersection in Fremont. The car was stopped at the intersection, then continued through the stop sign without seeing the motorcycle, which crashed into the rear driver’s side of the car. The police officer suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Harborview Medical Center. The driver of the car was not injured in the accident. Witnessses attributed the accident to limited visibility at the intersection.

Curious about the nature of the alleged intersection and the visibility problems, I pulled up a Google Map of the intersection where the accident occurred. Immediately I could see what the witnesses were talking about. Visibility is limited by trees, houses, and parked cars. It is very possible that the driver of the car could have looked both ways, and continued into the intersection thinking it was clear. The fact that most drivers aren’t aware of motorcyclists could have also been part of the problem. The lesson to be learned from this unfortunate event is that at intersections, it is extremely important to be aware of oncoming traffic and your surroundings before entering the intersection in order to prevent accidents like this one from happening.
