Two motorcycle riders were racing early Wednesday morning when a crash occurred causing the death of one of the bikers. Police report that the motorcycles hit something causing the accident. One of the riders was thrown from his bike and landed on the Sound Transit Light Rail tracks where he died. The other rider was taken by ambulance to Harborview Medical Center where he remains in critical condition.

The motorcycle accident occurred as the riders were speeding down Martin Luther King Jr. Way South in Seattle. Because of the large debris field across the train tracks, Sound Transit was forced to shut down for much of the morning.

The old adage that speed kills is true, and it is even truer with motorcycle accidents. Sadly, the lapse of judgment shown by these two motorcyclists will have permanent consequences for them and their families. It cannot be said enough that if you choose to ride a motorcycle, you must always keep safety first. This is true not only with negotiating the other vehicles on the road, but also with your own aggressive driving tendencies.
