Motorcyclist Dies Running From Police | Seattle Motorcycle Accident Lawyer
Speeding is a bad idea. Speeding to get away from the police is an even worse idea. And both of these actions show a level of overconfidence in driving or motorcycle skill to not only avoid other vehicles on the road but law enforcement officers as well. It’s a recipe for disaster. As a Seattle personal injury attorney with work in King County, I often hear from people who have lost loved ones because somebody was speeding on the road. A lot of the time, however, the person we endanger the most with arrogance is ourselves. It is wrong to endanger others, but it is just stupid to endanger yourself. On August 12th, 2011, at about 8 p.m., a veteran King County sheriff was speaking with a driver on the side of the road when a motorcycle flew past. The recklessness and speed with which the motorcycle was being driven prompted the officer to get in his car and chase after him. The two sped through Shoreline in King County when the officer ended up terminating his pursuit. Merely second later, as the motorcyclist continued to speed through the intersection of 15th Avenue Northeast and Northeast 175th Street, he collided with a car. The motorcycle, which turned out to be stolen, was broken into several pieces and the motorcyclist died instantly. The driver of the car was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, but was incredibly shaken, as was everyone who witnessed the accident. I can only imagine that the family and friends of the motorcyclist are also mourning his loss. However, it was the motorcyclist himself who paid the ultimate price, putting his life on the line for the wind in his hair and the sirens far behind him. The motorcyclist seemed to forget that if we don’t take care of ourselves, nobody else will. Here at our Bellevue motorcycle accident law office, we wish everyone involved in the accident strength in this time of loss.
