Oak Harbor Man Crashes Vehicle in Alcohol Related Auto Accident
As a Bellevue car crash lawyer, one of the most difficult parts of my job is hearing the stories of victims who have been injured by drunk drivers. There were nearly 11,800 deaths caused in 2008 accidents involving drunk driving, according to the National Traffic Highway Safety Administration. This is a devastating statistic that represents over 30% of all car accident fatalities that year. Car crashes that result from negligent driving often cause severe physical and psychological damage. The victim of a DUI accident is rarely the only one affected. Family and friends feel the pain and frustration as well. At 10:20pm on Monday, January 17th, 51-year-old Bradley Hansen from Oak harbor was driving his 2002 Chevrolet Impala while intoxicated. He was cruising northbound on Zylstra Road when a deer ran onto the street. Avoiding the deer, Hansen swerved and crashed into a parked 1998 Oldsmobile Regency with two passengers inside. The 13 year-old boy and 51 year-old woman in the Oldsmobile were unharmed. After the cars collided, the Chevrolet continued along and crashed into a power pole, then came to a stop in a driveway. Hansen was uninjured. Anyone driving a vehicle with alcohol in their system, let alone a blood alcohol content of .08 or higher, puts themselves and everyone else on the road at risk. Government agencies and other organizations have made an effort to reduce the amount of DUI related fatalities. Fortunately, the number of deaths caused by DUI’s has gone down in recent years. It is the responsibility of licensed drivers to keep the roads a safe place by not driving while intoxicated. If you do happen to be hit by a drunk or negligent driver, you should contact an experienced Sammamish personal injury attorney to help you get the money you deserve to cover your damages.
