Officers Plan to Strictly Enforce New Cell Ban in Washington | Seattle Car Accident Attorney

For years, we’ve known that handheld cell phones are a driving distraction that lead to numerous auto accidents. On Friday, the Washington State Patrol announced that beginning June 10th they will be ticketing anyone who uses a handheld cell phone while driving. Drivers will not be given a grace period to adjust to the new law.

Since 2008, Washington State has treated cell phone use as only a secondary offense. For two years, they couldn’t pull over drivers unless they were committing another traffic violation as well. Now, the state patrol believes we’ve already had plenty of time to adjust to the new law.

So, drivers may want to save those phone calls for another time. Otherwise, they could face a $124 fine for the offense not to mention the potential danger they are bringing to the roads.
