Plea Deal Reached in Fatal Hit-and-Run Accident | Seattle Personal Injury Lawyer

On average, a pedestrian is killed in a traffic accident every 120 minutes. Unfortunately, Washington pedestrian accidents are a big problem. On Monday, a Seattle woman accused of killing a pedestrian in a hit-and-run car accident pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide.

The accident took place last October near the Interstate 5 exit ramp to James Street. According to witnesses, Rose M. Dorsey hit Michael Lindsay, went over a guardrail, and then fled the scene. A witness then followed her to Tukwila where she crashed into a semi truck.

Dorsey originally pleaded not guilty, but changed her plea on Monday after prosecutors announced they would dismiss the hit-and-run charge.

She will be sentenced on June 11th and could face up to 41 months in prison.

I would like to remind drivers to watch out for pedestrians at all times. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were 4,378 pedestrian fatalities and 69,000 pedestrian injuries in 2008. Many of these unnecessary accidents were caused by distracted and inattentive drivers. We can all help lower these numbers considerably simply by keeping our eyes on the road.
