Port Angles Motorcycle Accident | Kent Motorcycle Accident Attorney
As a Seattle motorcycle accident attorney, I am well aware of the dangers involved while riding a motorcycle. The likelihood of sustaining serious injuries in a motorcycle accident is far greater than in a passenger vehicle because of the lack protection. Contrary to popular belief, 80% of accidents that injure a motorcyclist are not caused by the motorcyclist. The common assumption that many people have is that motorcyclists are reckless, but this could not be further from the truth for the majority of bikers. Oftentimes it is the negligence of a car driver that results in serious injury for a motorcyclist. A motorcycle accident was caused by the driver of a passenger vehicle late last week in Port Angeles. 40-year-old Harold Heagy was driving a 1999 Saturn East on Highway 112 late Friday night, December 3rd. As he was driving, the Saturn crossed over the centerline of the highway and collided with an oncoming motorcycle. 51-year-old Thomas Paxton was riding the 2008 Yamaha motorcycle when the collision occurred. He sustained massive injuries including internal bleeding, head trauma, and two broken wrists. Paramedics transported him to Harborview Medical Center where he was listed in serious condition. Highway 112 was blocked in both directions for over 4 hours after the accident. Motorcycle accidents are 15 times more likely to cause death than an auto accident. Common injuries include road rash, brain damage and bone fractures. Studies show, however, that 93% of motorcycle accidents involve a motorcyclist who did not take a proper motorcycle training course which teaches you not only how to operate the motorcycle in a safe manner, but also how to think defensively and avoid collisions with other vehicles. As a rider myself, I urge you to take a Washington motorcycle training course before hitting the road. Leave a Reply |
