I have been practicing Washington car accident law and Washington personal injury law for many years now and I have seen dozens of Seattle car accidents caused by intoxicated drivers. Alcohol consumption impairs driving and greatly increases the likelihood of a Seattle auto accident, and accidents anywhere else in the world for that matter. Not to mention it is irresponsible and just plain stupid.

Sunday afternoon, a 24-year-old driver struck and seriously injured a man on the shoulder of Interstate 5. It appears the Auburn man had been drinking before the accident occurred. Officials say he may have been using a cell phone as well.

The accident happened at around 2 p.m. near the 200th Street exit on I-5 in Sea Tac.
The man’s minivan drifted off the road and hit Patrick Franklin, a 40-year-old Bellevue man, who was fueling his pickup truck. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with serious life threatening personal injuries.

The passenger of the pickup truck escaped the scene uninjured. The driver is in jail for investigation of vehicular assault.

We’ve heard it numerous times, “don’t drink and drive!” However, despite the warnings, hundreds of auto accidents are caused each year by drunk drivers. Remember that even a little alcohol consumption can significantly impair your driving and lead to car accidents.
