Seattle Car Crash Lawyer | Baby Killed in Texting While Driving Accident
Distracted driving has taken another two lives, this time killing a baby less than a year old and his young mother, who gambled with their lives and lost sending text messages while she drove them home. As a Seattle personal injury lawyer I find the amount of distracted driving accidents in the country tragic and infuriating. I can’t understand how people still think that they are somehow above texting while driving laws. Driving already requires you to multitask and doesn’t allow much room for error, but using your cell phone to call a friend or send out a quick text message is just selfish and very, very dangerous. 18-year-old Randreaita Coleman and her 10-month-old son Carter will never again see their family because Randreaita was texting while she drove them home down Interstate 65 in Alabama. Police recovered her cell phone only to find out that she had been having a text conversation for three whole minutes before she lost control of her car, crossed over the median and smashed head-on into a dump truck; Randreaita was killed instantly. The driver of the truck, 45-year-old Robert Paulk sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital, but the injuries suffered by baby Carter were far more severe and although doctors performed exhaustive resuscitative efforts to revive him they were unable to sustain his life and he was pronounced dead later that night. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration 50 percent of teens admitted to not only texting while driving but that they also didn’t think that it was dangerous. As a Seattle personal injury lawyer I think that it is time to really do something about distracted driving; $124 for a ticket isn’t enough of a deterrent to stop people from using their cell phone.
