As the founder of Teens Against Distracted Driving (T.A.D.D.), as well as a Seattle distracted driving accident attorney, I am all too aware of how dangerous a force distracted driving is on our streets and highways.  In a press release issued Wednesday, the Washington State Patrol alert Washington drivers that State Troopers will be keeping an eye out for illegal cell phone users.  Distracted driving has been a focus of the State Patrol in recent weeks and months, in an effort to educate people on the dangers of distracted driving, as well as to make our roads safer by stopping and citing people who they observe using their cell phones while driving.  The State Patrol encourages drivers not to use their cell phones while driving, but to use hands-free devices if for some reason they MUST use their phone.  I would urge drivers who need to use their phones to pull into a parking lot or some other safe area first.  The shoulder of the highway is for emergencies only; it is not a safe place to use your cell phone.  If you are on the highway, get off the highway and find a safe place to park.

The US Department of Transportation reports that in 2009, 20% of injury crashes involved drivers who were distracted in some way.  995 traffic fatalities that year resulted from drivers using cell phones.  They also report that a driver using a cell phone is four times as likely to be involved in a serious injury crash.  To relate how this issue relates to our local drivers here in Washington, King County Troopers pulled over 370 drivers for talking on cell phones in September.  43 drivers were pulled over for texting while driving.  More than half of those drivers were issued a $124 citation for illegal cell phone use.  These numbers are from all over King County, including smaller communities like Redmond.

If you have been injured in a distracted driving accident, you need the expert services of a Redmond distracted driving accident attorney.  Jason Epstein can not only handle any legal action that you may require, but he can also work with your insurance company to ensure the medical care that you need.  As the founder of T.A.D.D, Jason believes that distracted driving is a very dangerous habit on our roads, and he will work hard for his clients who have been hurt by it.  For more information and a FREE CONSULTATION, contact Jason at Premier Law Group at (206)285-1743.
