Seattle Police Officer Injured in Auto Accident with Drunk Driver | Seattle Personal Injury and Wrongful Death Lawyer
Police officers in Washington state have gone through a very difficult time over the last two months as they have lost several loved and respected members of their professional community. Saturday night, December 12th, a SeaTac Trooper was lucky to survive an accident involving a drunk driver with only minor personal injuries. As you can see from the picture of the damage to the police car, this could have been much worse. It could have involved serious personal injury or even wrongful death.
On Saturday night, Washington State Patrol received several calls complaining of, and warning about, a suspected drunk driver in a 1989 Toyota Corolla traveling on I-5 in King County. A trooper responded to the calls and parked on the shoulder of the freeway hoping to find the reported vehicle. The suspected driver approached the officer’s location, failed to slow down, crossed a few lanes of traffic and then slammed into the back of the patrol car at a very high rate of speed. After the collision, the suspect fled the scene, only to be hit by a third car when attempting to re-enter traffic. The patrol officer was taken to the hospital after the auto accident. Thankfully, he did not suffer any serious personal injuries. The occupants of the third car involved in the drunk driving accident were not injured. The suspected drunk driver, a 44 year old Seattle man, was immediately taken to the hospital with serious life threatening personal injuries. As we have said on this site many times before, drunk driving should never be tolerated. Its bad enough that this man decided to get behind the wheel of his car intoxicated Saturday night, but upon investigation it was found that the man was already driving with a suspended license because of a prior DUI conviction. We wish the State Trooper a speedy recovery from his injuries. Please drive responsibly this Holiday Season. Leave a Reply |
