Police are looking for public help. A cyclist suffered critical injuries early Tuesday morning at the 7700 block of Delridge Way Southwest in West Seattle. Police began receiving calls shortly after 6 am. The paramedics were called to the scene, and the female cyclist was transported to Harborview Medical Center with life threatening injuries.

At this point, information is sparse. Nobody has come forward as a witness. The police are requesting help. Anyone who has information regarding this serious injury accident should call 206-684-8927.

Hopefully the cyclist will make a full recovery, however, injuries are often severe in automobile vs. bicycle collisions. It can be difficult for motorists to see cyclists, and cyclists do not have any protection for their bodies when they are in a collision. The body absorbs the full brunt of the impact with the car and with the pavement. This can frequently lead to serious injuries, or even wrongful death. The injuries are usually much worse when the cyclist isn’t wearing a helmet.

If you know what happened in this accident, I encourage you to do what is right and come forward. Only once all of the facts have come to light will everyone be able to start moving on with their lives.
