Skagit County School Bus in Rollover Collision | Seattle Car Accident Lawyer

As a Seattle car accident attorney one thing I hate to see is accidents involving children. It was a dramatic Wednesday afternoon for the students of the Conway School. On March 10, one of the Skagit County school buses drove off the road, rolling onto its side into a five foot ditch. According to the State Patrol, the bus was carrying 36 students at the time, none of which, thankfully, suffered any serious personal injuries. The bus accident happened at the intersection of Nelson and Burkland Road.

The driver of the school bus was a 41 year old substitute driver for the Conway school. She had been working as a bus driver for only two days when the accident occurred. Soon after the accident, parents picked up their children directly from the scene of the rollover.

Investigators said the woman took her eyes off the road to look down at a route map. The minor distraction was all it took for the bus to lose control and land in the roadside ditch. It should go without saying that it is necessary to stay focused on the road at all times. Even small distractions can lead to serious auto accidents that put the lives of others at risk. Fortunately, the students, ranging between the ages of 5 and 14 years old, left the scene with no reported injuries.

The Skagit County Sheriff’s office will be investigating the auto accident further.
