Teen Dies Playing Drinking Game | Seattle Auto accident Attorney
After working as a Seattle personal injury attorney for the last several years I understand that underage drinking has been a dangerous problem for years. In fact, 31% of teens killed in a fatal auto accident had been drinking and driving. Parents supplying teens with alcohol is a growing epidemic and can have serious consequences including a charge with supplying alcohol to minors or even a manslaughter charge if a teen is killed through alcohol poisoning or drunk driving. Just recently, in Onalaska Washington, a young man died when an adult supplied alcohol to a group of teens at a birthday party. A 15-year-old from Onalaska was playing the drinking game, “shot for a shot” and after taking at least 11 shots of vodka the teen started drinking from the bottle. The teen passed out from the alcohol and died of alcohol poisoning without aid as nobody from the party called for help. His body was written on in permanent marker by the other teens at the party. The adult who supplied the alcohol is now facing charges including supplying alcohol to minors, failing to call for help and manslaughter. There are a lot of parents who feel it is safer for them to supply alcohol at a house party than to let the teens get the alcohol somewhere else and risk drinking and driving, but this sad incident proves that house parties can be just as fatal. Knowing where your children are and who they are with is essential to keeping them safe from an alcohol related death and studies show that households with a strong no-drinking policy have far less instances of alcohol use from their children.
