Texting While Driving Accident Paralyzes Woman | Seattle Car Accident Lawyer

On June 24, 2008 Loretta Strong and her husband Clarence were driving to visit their daughter in Indiana. It was on this trip that a teenager who the Strong’s didn’t even see caused a life-changing car accident. The teenager, who was distracted by texting while driving crossed over the median. She then overcompensated and ran into the Strongs. The car accident caused the Strongs’ Buick Rendezvous to flip five times, and while they were fortunate to have survived the rollover auto accident, Loretta was left paralyzed. The texting teenager walked away from the scene with only a fine and negative points on her driver’s license.

More than 18 months later, Loretta Strong still remains in 24-hour care and is permanently wheelchair bound. She carries around a sign that says “Don’t Text and Drive,” and, “I Got This Ride Because Someone Decided to Text and Drive.” Loretta says that many people, especially teenagers, have seen her, read the sign and vowed to never again text and drive. She says that the sign stops everyone, and hopefully they take the message to heart.

For Loretta, doctors who had once told her that she only had a 2% chance of recovery are now saying that they see her being able to walk again one day. Loretta said “If I can make a difference in this, then that’s what I want to do.” Hopefully Loretta’s message will spread and will have a lasting impression on individuals to help end the sad and dangerous texting while driving behavior.
