As a Seattle personal injury attorney I have long known the dangers of texting and driving. I have seen the victims firsthand. A large part of my practice relates to Seattle car accident cases. Too many auto accidents are caused by drivers talking and texting on the roads. Recently, this has been a hot topic so there has a lot of debate over the dangers of texting and driving . As a result, more states are taking actions to ban this driving distraction. My own personal experiences have led me to form a group to stop texting and driving.

Now, drivers in the state of Wyoming can no longer text while driving. Last week, Governor Dave Freudenthal signed a bill into law that prohibits Wyoming drivers from texting. Beginning July 1, texting will be treated as a primary offense and police will be able to fine offenders $75.

Wyoming has been fighting for legislation that would ban all cell phone use in the car for the past six years. They haven’t been able to pass that legislation yet, but at least they are finally moving in the right direction.

Twenty states, including DC and Guam, have already banned this driving distraction.

Many studies have recently emerged revealing the risks of texting and driving. It turns out teens are particularly susceptible to driving distractions. Studies show that they are the most likely to cause auto accidents because of distractions at the wheel. Through our project, Teens Against Distracted Driving, we are trying to change this by encouraging teens to take a pledge against distracted driving.
