Texting While Driving Causes Accidents | Bellevue Car Accident Attorney

As a Bellevue car accident lawyer and a driver, I have found that the increased use of cell phones has lead to increased distraction while driving. Not only are distractions one of the leading causes of auto accidents, cell phone use alone accounts for over 25% of distracted driving accidents. The single most dangerous distraction on the road today is texting behind the wheel. Working at a Bellevue Law Firm, I strive to raise awareness about great danger distractions pose on the roadways.

A recent study published by the American Journal of Public Health shows just how grave dangers of texting while driving are. According to the study, texting behind the wheel accounted for 16,141 deaths from 2002 to 2007. Researchers found that if text messaging had never been introduced, distracted driving deaths would have decreased to 1,925 fatalities per year. In reality, the death toll rose from 4,611 fatalities in 2001 to 5,988 fatalities in 2007 due to the increased use of cell phones.

Many measures have been taken to raise awareness about the dangers involved with using a cell phone while driving. Unfortunately, even with the known risks of texting while driving and the new state laws restricting the use of cell phones on the road, the death toll continues to rise. In response to these overwhelming statistics, I have committed my time to talking to teens about distracted driving.Teens Against Distracted Driving (TADD) was started to help spread awareness about the dangers involved with texting while driving.
