Texting While Driving Crash Leads to Serious Injury | Seattle Auto Accident Lawyer

Working with victims of serious Seattle auto accidents as a Bellevue car accident lawyer I realized pretty quickly what a problem texting while driving would become. So over a year ago I started Teens Against Distracted Driving to try to curtail the problem in the younger generation who are not only more avid texters, but also more inexperienced drivers. Sadly the problem continues to grow in spite of laws banning texting while driving and an increase in awareness.

Thursday, October 7th five people were rushed to the hospital when a driver texting while driving sent a car out of control.

27-year-old, Emily Hernandez-Stepney was apparently texting while driving and lost control of her ’95 Chevrolet Tahoe sending the vehicle across the center line on State Route 17, just south of Moses Lake.

The Tahoe struck 36-year-old Crystal Ann Robledo’s ’96 Chevrolet Suburban headed southbound. Three victims were transported to Providence Sacred Heart in Spokane via helicopter. Hernandez-Stepney sustained a broken wrist and head injuries. The passengers in Hernandez-Stephneys vehicle also sustained injury. A four-year-old boy suffered facial lacerations, a broken wrist, broken leg and chemical burns from a bottle of bleach that spilled on him in the collision. A 13-year-old girl sustained a fracture to her femur.

Robledo and her passengers suffered injuries as well. Robledo sustained back, neck and shoulder injuries in the auto accident and her 12-year-old girl passenger was taken to Providence Sacred Heart by helicopter for facial lacerations and a broken foot.

Texting while driving is quickly becoming one of the most common reasons for auto accidents. In spite of laws banning texting while driving the problem continues to worsen as California’s Auto Club demonstrated in a recent texting while driving study.
