The Celebrity Drinking And Driving Problem | Seattle Auto Accident Lawyer

In my career as a Seattle car accident attorney and Washington wrongful death lawyer I have represented clients in catastrophic car accidents, quite a few of which were caused by drunk drivers. In 2008 there were 12,000 deaths as the result of individuals driving under the influence. With the dangers associated with driving under the influence well known it is always shocking to me how irresponsible people can be behind the wheel. It is even more shocking when the drunk driver is a celebrity who is known for giving back. They may contribute to a variety of charities to help save the lives of starving children, natural disaster victims, and support disease research, but they fail us all by no staying sober behind the wheel. After Lindsay Lohan’s 2007 DUI charge and multiple infractions on her parole she has again been caught consuming alcohol even as the court battle over the damages of her DUI continues.

Lohan, of course, is not the only celebrity guilty of such an infraction: Khloe Kardashian, Haley Joel Osment, Heather Locklear, Mel Gibson, Nichole Richie, Joba Chamberlain as well as numerous politicians all have been found guilty of driving under the influence.

The sad fact is most of the deaths and injuries caused by these accidents are not the intoxicated drivers- they are innocent bystanders- mothers, children, fathers. As I have said in previous entries, it all comes down to awareness- awareness of the dangers of drunk driving and the variety of options available to prevent driving while intoxicated such as calling a cab, taking a bus or having a designated driver. But wouldn’t raising awareness be a lot simpler without those idolized by society continually setting a bad example.
