Tragic Accident Kills 8-Year-Old in Ephrata

As a Seattle auto accident lawyer working at a Bellevue personal injury law firm I see victims of auto accidents every day and it’s my job to help them get their life back to normal after suffering a personal injury because of another person’s negligence behind the wheel. These days there are too many people in a rush to get to their destination that are driving at increasingly fast speeds not thinking about the risks they are taking with their life along with the lives of everyone else on the road.

We have seen far too many tragic accidents this week, and Wednesday night another innocent life was taken in an auto accident that was completely avoidable. According to Grand County police, 29-Shaynel Anslow was speeding on Frey Road Northwest just north of Ephrata when she lost control of her vehicle on a curve and left the road, crashing into a telephone pole which caused the car to flip over. Anslow’s 8-year-old niece, Alexandrea Hamilton, was riding in the back seat with her sister, 11-year-old Ashlee Hamilton, and while Ashlee survived the accident, Alexandrea did not and was pronounced dead at the scene. Ashlee and Anslow suffered minor personal injuries. The passenger, 38-year-old John Hale, sustained serious spinal injuries and had to be airlifted to Harborview Medical Center.

My sympathies go out to the family of Alexandrea, I have seen how devastating the sudden and wrongful death of a child, especially one so young, can be for a family. Getting to your destination a few minutes earlier is never worth the life of an innocent victim. There is a reason why we have posted speed limits and trying to negotiate a sharp turn when you are already speeding can turn out to be a deadly decision.
