Tragic Accident Kills Kali Oberg | Seattle Wrongful Death Lawyer
As a Seattle personal injury attorney, I see the results of automobile accidents every day. It is something I carry with me whenever I drive along the freeway, but I know we have all felt that sense of danger when we pass or are passed by a large semi-trailer truck. It casts a shadow over us and fills our windows, and we can hear it scathe the road underneath its massive weight. Such vehicles represent various risks, including unsecured debris hitting one’s car and blocking a driver’s sight. Even when a semi is coming from the opposite direction it can be deadly, and on the freeway one accident can quickly snowball into a multi-car wreck. According to Washington State Patrol troopers, a cement truck blew a front tire on the Camas Slough Bridge on State Highway 14 around 4:30 p.m. yesterday. The driver of the semi truck, 28-year-old Yevgeniu Konkin from Portland, lost control of the truck and veered into oncoming westbound traffic. There it knocked aside one car, and hit two others straight on. Unfortunately, 18-year-old Kali B. Oberg, of Vancouver, Washington, did not survive. Oberg suffered major internal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Other victims of the crash sustained multiple broken bones and everyone was suffering from neck and back pain. This includes Konkin, who received a broken cheek bone. Because the accident was fatal, troopers had to shut down the highway between mileposts 9 and 14 and traffic was detoured until later that evening. Oberg, a recent graduate of Fort Vancouver High School, is described by her school friend Josh Riddell as a “beautiful and young woman” who “didn’t deserve this.” Our greatest condolences go out to her family and friends at this time of difficulty. A memorial fund has been set up in Oberg’s honor at the Columbia Credit Union where they are taking donations in her name.
