Tragic Wenatchee Wrongful Death Bicycle Accident | Seattle Personal Injury Lawyer
A possible wrongful death and serious personal injury occurred when cyclist Gary Rounds collided with a teenage girl on his bicycle September 1st. The accident occurred while Rounds was riding on the Apple Capital Recreation Loop Trail in Wenatchee. The crash severed the top of his spine. The amazing trauma team at Harborview Medical Center was able to save his life through extreme medical measures, however his family decided to remove him from life-support Friday afternoon. Wenatchee Police Sgt. Bruce Nash who responded to the incident stated that Rounds was traveling southbound on the trail and collided with a teenage girl riding her bicycle north. Rounds crashed into the girl’s bike and his body thrown from the trail, witnesses said. He was not wearing a helmet. The girl said she didn’t see Rounds before he hit her. She was not seriously injured by the crash. The cause of the crash is unknown and authorities have not suggested that either party was at fault at this point. Rounds’ sisters has, however, requested that the City of Wenatchee put more signs on the trail in inform bikers of blind turns and places where increased traffic may cause collisions. Riding a bicycle can be very dangerous. While this is clearly a tragic accident, Gary Rounds’ injuries may have been less severe if he was wearing a helmet. If Wenatchee had placed better signage, the accident may have been avoided altogether. Everybody should remember that bicycles travel at high rates of speed, and bicycle accidents can produce significant, even life threatening, injuries. Please be careful on your bikes.
