Two Teen Girls in Serious Condition after Crash | Seattle Auto Accident Attorney
As a Seattle personal injury attorney one of my main focuses is on auto accident injury cases. Unfortunately, all too often our youngest drivers are involved in serious accidents. Two sixteen-year-old girls never made it to school on a Tuesday morning last week. Luckily, they’ll be able to go back sometime soon. The girls were involved in a head-on collision on Morris Road. The road was slick due to recent rains and when the driver of the car took a turn took quickly. She wasn’t able to stay in her lane and the car smashed into an oncoming pickup truck. Images of the car indicate that the 1985 Oldsmobile had to be cut open to get the teens out. One girl suffered serious head and chest injuries while the other endured a broken leg and a punctured lung. Both were in stable condition by the evening of the accident and expected to make full recoveries. Both girls are student athletes at Yelm High School, where counselors were trying to help students understand what happened. Girls soccer practice was cancelled for the day to let the students cope with the news or visit their friends in the hospital. With the high incidence of teen driving accidents, school counselors seem to have steps in place to help teens deal with the shock of a friend’s accident and injury. Be sure to know how to help your teen at home too in light of a friend or classmate’s accident. Driving in inclement weather is dangerous for all drivers, but especially for new teen drivers. Wet or snowy roads need to be dealt with differently than a dry road on a sunny day. As fall turns into winter, remind your new drivers about the dangers of wintery precipitation that increase driving dangers even further. Be aware when the temperature is below freezing that previous precipitation may turn to invisible black ice. Also, when choosing a vehicle for your teen driver, remember to choose safety first. While that old clunker might have been lying around just for their use, an affordable used car with multiple airbags and modern safety features might be a better option. Invest in your child’s safety and with serious discussions, make sure that they are invested in the effort as well.
