Unconscious Driver Pins Woman Against Car at Pike Place Market in Seattle | Lynnwood Injury Attorney
What do epilepsy, heart conditions and prescription narcotics all have in common? They can all lead to severe or fatal auto accidents. Spending several years as a personal injury attorney in Bellevue Washington and working on Seattle personal injury settlements I have helped defend those injured in these horrible accidents caused by unconscious drivers. You may think these are rare occurrences, but just this week, an unconscious man struck and severely injured three Seattle pedestrians.
Just before noon on Thursday, December, 16th an unconscious driver went down a steep hill near Seattle’s Pike Place Market and struck three pedestrians before hitting another vehicle which was parked near the market. The driver struck a couple walking near Pike Place Market slightly injuring a woman and throwing the man 20 feet. Another pedestrian was struck and pinned against a parked vehicle. Firefighters had to extricate the woman. All three pedestrians were taken to Harborview Medical Center along with the unconscious driver. The reason the man was unconscious is under investigation. Though you may think this is an extremely rare phenomenon, this is not the first incident of unconsciousness behind the wheel this year. Back in October there was a Kent auto accident when a man passed out behind the wheel due to a heart attack he had had a few days prior. Another man faces serious charges after killing a person when he had an epileptic seizure behind the wheel. Epilepsy, heart problems and medications are all common reasons for a driver to lose consciousness behind the wheel. There is one simple way to prevent causing a serious accident like this one—get clearance from a doctor If you have epilepsy and make sure you take your medications properly and if you are using any prescription or over-the-counter drugs that list drowsiness as a side effect do not drive until you know how the drug affects you.
