At Straight Talk Law we have been warning about the use of cell-phones in your car for some time now and have also provided reasons, information, and statistics to support our warnings. Now it looks like our state government is considering taking action. Washington State senator Tracey Eide has proposed a bill that will make the use of cell-phones in a car a primary offense. Right now in our state, police officers can give you a cell-phone ticket only as a secondary offense. That is, if you are pulled over for speeding and you also happen to be using your cell phone, you will be cited. Under this proposed bill someone could be pulled over and receive a ticket just for having your cell phone, Blackberry, or other mobile device to your ear. Texting will also be a primary violation. Let’s hope that this bill passes as it will make our roads much safer.
